Camino Portugues Day Zero

I wasn’t sure that I would be writing a blog about this latest walk, for it is going to be a very different one, I think, to what I’ve done before. My hikes across the UK have been often extremely solitary, leaving me much time to think and observe, and then to record those thoughts and observations. The Camino Portugues, that I am starting tomorrow, is much busier. So it might be that in order to write the blog I might reduce my opportunities to make the most of interactions with others. I’d therefore thought that maybe I would just experience the walk as a pilgrimage, and not write about it.
But…. With every year my ability to remember becomes less sharp, and these accounts are a great aide memoire. And also, since starting the Coast to Coast in 2021 I have linked walking with writing. It just felt uncomfortable not to be doing it again.
So, presuming this continues to feel the right thing to do, and WiFi permitting, my first Camino will be recorded here. I hope that you enjoy coming along with me as I set off from the wonderful city of Porto tomorrow lunchtime. I can’t wait!

Love the photo of you, Jane. It’s such an adventure! Looking forward to hearing about it when you feel you want to write but if you don’t you might be inundated with people all texting you for updates!! Porto looks simply beautiful. I hope the weather stays fair for you although if course I want a photograph of you in your new full wet (singular) — the pilgrim cape
Excited to follow you virtually along the Portugues! I walked part of the Camino Frances in Spain last spring, and am returning this summer for more. It will be lovely to have a window into the Portugues, whatever time you can spare for writing. Bom Caminho!
Looking forward to those tiny feet and hopefully some enviable ice cream! xx
Nice top! Hope you appreciated me sending you a mutual friend to join you for lunch - what are the chances. Boa sorte x
